South Wilts v Lymington

South Wilts 305 for 7   in 62.5 overs
Lymington 177 all out    in 56.4 overs

Last Saturday Lymington were away at Bemerton, Salisbury against South Wilts CC who won the toss and elected to bat. The Lymington opening bowlers were Matt Metcalfe (16 overs 2 for 72) and Simon Beetham (6 overs 0 for 21) who were unable to make a breakthrough. Felix Ambrose (9 overs 2 for 57) and left arm spinner Darren Cowley (15 overs 1 for 62) were also unable to take a wicket until the reintroduction of Metcalfe in the 37th over with the score on 166 he had Jack Mynott (64) lbw. Then in the 41st over he had Australian Jake Winter (109) caught behind by Hampshire 2nd XI wicketkeeper Ed Ellis. Spinners Dominic Hand (13 overs 1 for 60) and Richie Lock (3.5 overs 1 for 25) picked up a wicket each and South Wilts finally declared on 305 for 7 after 62.5 overs.

In reply the Lymington openers Ben Rogers (23) and Ryan Scott (40) put on 40 before the former was caught and Richie Lock (12) was caught behind and then Scott was unfortunately run out so at 89 for 3 in the 26th over Lymington were struggling. New Zealander Terry Crabb (6) attempting to increase the run rate was stumped and then Dominic Hand (5) and Darren Cowley (4) were both caught behind off Hampshire EPP player and ex Cadnam colt Luke Evans. Ed Ellis (31) endeavoured to build a rescue plan but he was bowled at 135 in the 40th over. Lymington in this all day format needed to bat 58 overs to get a losing draw. Young Felix Ambrose (14 not out) defended resolutely and was ably backed up by Cameron Grierson (17) but the latter was bowled by Head Coach of New Forest Junior Cricket Association James Hibberd the first ball of his return spell. Captain Simon Beetham (0) perished after facing 5 balls and Matt Metcalfe (4) after facing 13 balls and with only 8 balls left decided to leave a ball and was bowled by Hibberd.

Not a good performance by Lymington who had been in with a chance of taking the all day format pennant if they had won and other results went their way.

Next week’s fixture on Saturday 6th August is at the Sports Ground, Lymington against St Cross Symondians CC in the final phase of the 50/50 format starting at 1pm
