Last Saturday Lymington were at Fernhill New Milton Sports Ground in the 4th local derby of the season.. Lymington captain Simon Beetham won the toss and elected to bat, Openers Ben Rogers (6) and Ryan Scott (22) were both back in the pavilion with the score at 45 for 2 quickly followed by New Zealander Terry Crabb (1) and leading run scorer Ed Ellis (7) plus former Lymington Colt Jack Roberts (2) and Cameron Grierson (0). At 76 fo7 Lymington were struggling and with all-rounder Matt Metcalfe (11) being out to former Lymington Colt Nick Elliott (19 overs 3 for 61) aided by Joe Hall (25 overs 4 for 56)
Lymington were looking at a low score but “cometh the hour cometh the man” in the form of former opening batsman batting at No. 6 Dominic Hand (78 not out). He was joined by No 10 Simon Beetham (21) and they put on a ninth wicket stand of 55 and the ever dependable Ed Freeman (3 not out) made the last wicket stand of 49 undefeated at the end of 64 overs.
In reply New Milton lost early wickets to Lymington’s opening attack of Matt Metcalfe (25 overs 2 for 38) and Ed Freeman (4 overs 1 for 15) backed up by Richie Lock (19 overs 2 for 47). James Park (62 not out off 170 balls) stuck firm and although Dominic Hand (9 overs 1 for 28) and Simon Beetham (2 overs 0 for 2) endeavoured to take wickets New Milton finished on 136 for 6 off 59 overs.
Next weeks fixture on Saturday 23rd July is against bottom of the table Ventnor CC starting at 11.30pm the penultimate all day format match and is at the Sports Ground Lymington.
On Sunday 24th July Lymington 1st XI are away to Alton CC in the British Gas Southern Premier Cricket League T20/20 starting at 3pm and the Ladies W10 softball cricket team are at IBM Hursley in the Hampshire finals which they won last year. The Lymington Under 15 team are also at New Milton in the NFJCA league playoffs – so a busy day for the club at all levels.
