Lymington v Southampton University

Lymington 241 for 5 in 40 overs
Southampton University 235 all out in 39.5 overs

On a cloudy warmish day at the Sports Ground which looked nice and green the Lymington captain Dominic Hand won the toss and elected to bat. The openers Jonathan Green (22) and Dominic Hand (47) put on 55 before the former was caught quickly followed by Ollie Calcott (0). Lymington’s Saturday 1st XI captain Simon Beetham (90 not out) batted well supported by Josh Bowring (30) who was run out after looking to set a big score. Asa Drodge (2) was caught and Damian Jayasinghe (18 not out) batted sensibly striking three 4’s and after 40 overs the Lymington score reached 241 for 5.

Lymington’s opening bowlers were Hampshire Over 90’s player and 1st XI Manager Tony Wharton and young Alex Wells who were unable to make a breakthrough as were Ollie Calcott and Jonathan Green. At 65 for 0 the Southampton University side were going well but the introduction of sixteen year old Asa Drodge (6 overs 2 for 22) picked up 2 wickets in his second over and Simon Beetham (5 overs 2 for 28) also picked up 2 wickets. The University side were stuttering but at 187 for 5 were looking good however opener J Rye (91) was brilliantly caught by Asa Drodge on the mid-wicket boundary. Jonathan Green (8 overs 2 for 41) came back and bowling off-spin picked up 2 wickets.

Josh Bowring (7 overs 2 for 44) bowled very well and with one over left Dominic Hand (4.5 overs 1 for 32) and the University needing 11 runs off the last over when a throw from the boundary by Asa Drodge hit the stumps direct running out the last batsman leaving Lymington winners by 6 runs.
