South Wilts 213 for 9
Lymington 203 for 9
Lymington captain Steve Beetham lost the toss and South Wilts elected to bat. The opening bowlers Matt Metcalfe (6 overs 2 for 22) and Ed Freeman (10 overs 1 for 27) made an initial breakthrough with the score at 13 then further wickets at 42 and 57. Simon Beetham (6 overs 0 for 17) and Richard Lock (10 overs 1 for 42) and Lewis Mc Manus (2 overs 0 for 13) were unable to take more wickets as did Chris Blake (7 overs 0 for 39). However the introduction of off spinner Dominic Hand (8 overs 5 for 49) produced a wicket taking performance and reduced South Wilts to 213 for 9 off their 50 overs including ex-Lymington captain Christian Pain.
In reply Lymington openers Cameron Grierson (10) and Dominic Hand (4) were soon back in the pavilion and with Ryan Scott retiring injured with a groin strain Hampshire’s Lewis McManus (56) and this season’s top run scorer Ed Ellis (40) led a recovery and took the score to 114 before the latter was dismissed by Jack Mynott (9 overs 4 for 41). At this stage Lymington were well in charge. Richard Lock (23) helped the score to 158 but the dismissal of McManus at 164 led to a collapse with Ollie Calcutt (0) and Chris Blake (0) both bowled and at 172 for 7 Lymington were struggling and with Matt Metcalfe (6) being stumped yet again Simon Beetham (26 not out) and Ed Freeman (4 not out) were unable to overtake the South Wilts total and finished 10 runs short after the requisite 50 overs.
Next weeks fixture is against St Cross Symondians CC away at the Greenjackets Ground. The match is the first of the all day format starting at 11.30am
