Lymington 256 all out in 49.5 overs

The Sports Ground at Lymington looked nice and green in the sunshine for the second local derby in 2 weeks with Lymington playing newly promoted near neighbours New Milton. Lymington captain Steve Beetham won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Ben Rogers (1) and Dominic Hand (4) were soon back in the pavilion but Hampshire player Lewis McManus (45) led a recovery although Dorset player Ryan Scott (6) was caught, last week’s centurion 21 year old Ed Ellis (65) assisted the recovery and took the score to 144 for 4. Returning after nearly 12 months ex Dorset player Darren Cowley (75) showed his true ability with seven 4’s and four 6’s and with newcomer Richard Lock (11) and Simon Beetham (23) losing their wickets in trying to increase the total. Chris Blake (7), Matt Metcalfe (1) and Ed Freeman (2 not out) took the final score to 256 all out in 49.5 overs.
The New Milton bowlers were Dan Loader (10 overs 4 for 40) George Watts (10 overs 1 for 34) England Over 50’s international Nick Gargaro (3 overs 0 for 24) James Haggaty (10 overs 1 for 22) former Lymington player Nick Elliott (7 overs 0 for 55) Ryan Beck (2 overs 0 for 16) and Lee Beck (7.5 overs 3 for 50).
In reply the Lymington opening bowlers Matt Metcalfe (9 overs 0 for 30) and Ed Freeman (7 overs 1 for 17) picked up an early wicket and kept the run rate down with former Totton & Eling player Tom Arnold (100) and New Zealander David Wakefield (0) being parted in the second over, brothers Nick Park (21) and James Park (43) helped Arnold move the New Milton score along but Simon Beetham (10 overs 2 for 51) and Richard Lock (10 overs 3 for 51) made breakthroughs and at 196 for 5 New Milton were behind the run rate. Darren Cowley (10 overs 0 for 42) and Chris Blake (4 overs 0 for 22) ensured Lymington won by 25 runs with New Milton finishing on 231 for 7 in 50 overs.
Lymington’s next British Gas Southern Premier Cricket League -Premier Division match is this Saturday 21st May away to Ventnor at the Newclose Ground near Newport on the IOW starting at 1pm and is a 50 over per side format.
