Lymington III v Southampton Travellers

Lymington III 197-9
Southampton Travellers 80 all out

On Saturday 20 August Lymington III played Southampton Travellers in their Hants County Division 4 West match at Woodside Park. Lymington skipper Mark Jackson lost the toss and was asked to bat. Mark Gannaway and Josh Royan made a steady start before youngster Royan was caught behind for 2, but he showed encouraging signs that he had the makings of a promising opener. Damian Jayasinghe joined Gannaway and the pair played an array of good shots, driving and pulling the Southampton attack to take to score to 68 when Gannaway missed a full toss to be bowled for 30. Josh Bowring then played a hard-hitting innings of 33 before he was caught, and Jayasinghe completed a well-crafted 58 before pushing one to short cover. Asa Drodge and Peter Tapper then chipped in with 19 and 16 respectively and the 31 extras in blustery conditions contributed to the Lymington total of 197-9 after 45 overs. After tea the Southampton reply never really got going as they lost opener Hardwicke run out within facing by keeper Jackson aided by a Jayasinghe throw. Excellent bowling by Trevor Phillips 7-3-8-2 and Asa Drodge 10-2-25-2 helped to increase the required run rate. The introduction of Alex Treagus 10-1-25-1 and Josh Royan 5-0-13-3 built upon the foundation set by the opening bowlers. Wickets continued to fall with the bowlers well supported by good catching by keeper Jackson, Charlie Hampton and Treagus. During the carnage only Simms 33 not out held the Southampton innings together as they succumbed to 80 all out in the 36th over. Lymington III ended their home fixtures with a win and used the match to give younger players further experience of league cricket. Lymington III end their season next Saturday away to Verwood.
