Lymington win the U14 Dorset Indoor League
Lymington CC U14’s dug deep to win the Division 1 Dorset Indoor League in an enthrawling finals night on 17th April.
Hot on the heels of winning the Division 2 title last season, Lymington managed to qualify for the end of season finals night by winning 4 out of their 5 league matches in the season.
Their semi final opponents were Broadstone Royals. After electing to bowl, Lymington were immediately on the back foot as Broadstone raced to 51/0 after 3 overs. A wicket for Thomas Sykes and the introduction of Cameron Roberston slowed the Broadstone run rate. Lymington then applied pressure with a run out by Aaron Jefferies and two wickets for younger brother Harvey Jefferies. Roberston brought the Broadstone innings to an end with a wicket in the final over.
Chasing 132 the Lymington innings faltered early on as Robertson and A Jefferes fell early. Patrick Lewis [33 not out] and Hugo Smith steadied the ship both retiring and valuable late runs were added by Thomas Sykes and Harvey Jeffereies . However Lymington were still behind the run rate when Lewis and Smith returned to the wicket. Showing cool heads under pressure the pair went on the attack to bring Lymington victory with just two balls to spare. Smith [50 not out] struck the winning runs to reach his maiden half century.
Lymington opponents in the final were Parley Panthers who had beaten them in the league and were holders of the Division 1 trophy. The Lymington team collectively rose to the occasion. Bowling first all 5 bowlers were economical. With 2 wickets for Aaron Jefferies and 1 for Cameron Robertson and 2 sharp run outs they restricted Parley to 148. The Lymington batsmen then attacked the Parley bowlers from the start. Openers Cam Robertson [40 not out], and Pat Lewis [35 not out], played with authority and confidence beyond their years. Aaron Jefferies [26 not out] and Thomas Sykes maintained the momentum allowing Cameron Robertson and Pat Lewis to return to the wicket to hit the winning runs with 3 balls to spare.
Congratulations to all 9 of the U14 Lymington CC squad, Cam Robertson [c], Patrick Lewis [wkt], Aaron Jefferies, Thomas Sykes, Hugo Smith, Harvey Jefferies, Sam Stockton, Ben Donnison and James Williams.
