Fawley v Lymington

NFJCA Under 9 League

Fawley 248
Lymington 264

Following the disappointment of the previous week’s abandonment, Lymington’s Under 9s finally got their season underway at Fawley. For most of the 16 players involved this was a first taste of a ‘proper’ cricket match.
The hosts were invited to bat and Henry Wood set the tone with a wicket in the first over. Although Lymington’s bowlers conceded a whopping 40 wides, their fielders performed admirably in restricting the home side to just 12 runs off the bat. Highlights of the innings were Reggie Smith’s superb pull shot for four, and the wicketkeeping of Nick Dodd who took a sharp catch off James Collinson and helped bring about a run out.
Chasing Fawley’s total of 248 Lymington made a good start with the first pairing of Dodd and Collinson adding 18. James Rose and Oliver Carswell, and then Jack Rose and Jack Stewart, all continued the good work, surpassing the home side’s score in the 12th over. In the next over Aidan Smith claimed the only wicket to fall, but Wood and Aaron Coles batted sensibly to take the score to 264 at the close to give Lymington a 16 run victory.
