Chris Todd Obituary

Chris Todd RIP

We are sad to report the death of one of our former midweek cricketers Chris Todd, whose brave fight against cancer ended over the weekend. Chris, or ‘Toddy’ as he was popularly known was a regular feature for Lymington in matches against touring sides and he was part of our 2002 tour party to Ireland.

Former serviceman Toddy played the majority of his cricket for Pylewell Park after joining them from Exbury more than 25 years ago. He was a determined, if unspectacular, batsman who nurdled the ball around and accumulated runs quite successfully throughout his cricket career. He was also a solid stopper behind the stumps and he was a joy to captain, always available to play in whatever team he was asked and never complaining if he wasn’t batting up the order. In his early days at Pylewell he often volunteered (sometimes rashly) to field at gully when Colin Kitcher was in his prime and terrifying New Forest batsmen and fielders alike. Quite often this didn’t end well, but Toddy never shied away from the challenge or asked to be moved.

Toddy’s sad demise mirrors that of another of this writers’ Pylewell Park contemporaries Dave Noonan who also contracted skin cancer about three years ago and died. Both were loyal club members, lived for cricket and were the sort of blokes you would willingly give up an afternoon to spend time with on the cricket pitch and in the bar.
