Hampshire Academy 247 for 9
Lymington 249 for 6 in 45.1 overs
Lymington won by 4 wickets
Playing on the Nursery Ground at the Ageas Bowl home of Hampshire Cricket on a warm but cloudy with sunny periods the Lymington captain Simon Beetham won the toss and elected to bowl.
Missing from the Lymington attack were Matt Metcalfe whose wife is expecting their first child and Ed Freeman who was in the 2nd XI so the opening pair were Simon Beetham (10 overs 3 for 58) and young former colt Ben Howard-Allen (10 overs 0 for 50) after having made his 1st XI debut last week.
They were unable to make any breakthrough but the introduction of spinner Dominic Hand (10 overs 2 for 47) produced dividends when he took a wicket followed by a run out which reduced the Academy to 97 for 2 in the 22nd over. Spinners Darren Cowley (10 overs 0 for 17) and Richie Lock (10 overs 3 for 75) pegged back the scoring rate with Cowley being especially miserly with 17 singles and 43 dot balls and no extras in his 10 overs.
Brad Taylor (130) batted well and was out caught behind in the 47th over. The Academy scored 247 for 9 at the end of 50 overs. Not one bye or leg bye was conceded and with 2 stumpings and 2 catches Hampshire 2nd XI wicket keeper Ed Ellis had another good day.
In reply the Lymington openers Ben Rogers (4) and Ryan Scott (99) were soon separated with the former being dismissed in the first over Richie Lock (36) and Scott put on 98 before the latter was out. Darren Cowley (24) having hit 4 fours was bowled and then Ed Ellis (40) took the score to 226 in the 41st over before he was out quickly followed by Scott bowled one short of his well-deserved century and Cameron Grierson (0) was caught trying to finish off the match. Dominic Hand (10 not out) and Simon Beetham (4 not out) steered Lymington home in the 46th over with the loss of 6 wickets.
Congratulations to Bashley (Rydal) on winning the All Day Pennant which included a tied match against Lymington.
Next week on Saturday 20th August Lymington are away to Havant starting at 1pm and hopefully to avenge their defeat in the semi-final of the BGSPCL T20/20 last Sunday.
